What is Yoga Therapy?

Yoga therapy is a hybrid combination of the ancient Eastern practice of yoga, combined with current modern Western science. Using a scientific research and education, while offering a holistic approach, yoga therapy creates a sense of balance and well-being, through mindful breathing, gentle supported yoga postures, anatomy education, meditation, and self-study. Yoga therapists are trained to work with clients experiencing injury, illness, and mental health issues. Cultivating a sense of safety, comfortable exploration, and even pleasure, we use the evidence-based tools and techniques of yoga to promote EASE of the body, mind, and spirit.

 

 

Yoga is an ancient practice that has been used for thousands of years, while yoga therapy is a newly reconized profession. This holistic 'mash-up' offers the body and mind support while engaing with its natural intelligence during healing. 

 

Educational standars for Yoga Therapists were developed in 2012. Treat Yourself Wellness, Yoga Therapy offers continuing education and training for yoga teachers with a base 200hr YTT. Affiliated with Ajna Yoga, one of the first 12 programs to be accredited by the International Association of Yoga Therapists. (IAYT)
